What Animal Is Making Noise in My Attic?

The type and timing of the noise can sometimes provide clues.

Heavy thumping or walking at night may indicate a larger animal such as a raccoon.

Fast running or scratching during the daytime can sometimes indicate squirrels.

Light scratching, fluttering or activity around roof openings may involve bats or birds.

But sounds can travel through a structure, so what sounds like an animal directly above one room may actually be somewhere else in the attic or wall system.

That is why an inspection is more useful than simply guessing from the noise.
