The Animal In My Attic Was Removed. Could There Still Be Babies in My Attic?
Yes, and this is exactly why wildlife removal can get more complicated than people expect.
A homeowner sees one raccoon.
Someone removes one raccoon.
Problem solved, right?
Not necessarily.
Depending on the species and time of year, the adult may be a mother with young somewhere inside the attic, wall or another protected part of the structure.
You cannot always hear them immediately.
You also cannot assume that because the adult is gone, the attic is empty.
Why this matters
If babies are left behind, several things can happen.
They can start making noise after the mother disappears.
They can become trapped inside.
The mother may aggressively attempt to regain access to the structure.
And if an opening is sealed without realizing young are still inside, you have now made the situation much harder.
That is why I really dislike the “find hole, close hole, figure it out later” approach.
The order matters.
This is also why every wildlife situation is a little different
There is not one universal method that makes sense for every raccoon, squirrel or bat problem.
During the inspection, we look at the species, season, location of the activity, possible entry points and signs that young may be present.
Then we can figure out what removal method is appropriate.
That is much safer than assuming the animal you saw is the only animal involved.
If you recently had a raccoon or squirrel removed and you are still hearing noises, do not automatically assume it is another adult animal.
Have the house checked.
